Whether it’s walking to restaurants and local businesses or living an active lifestyle with walking, biking and running, neighbors of Herring Run Park have so many reasons to love city life.
Herring Run Park, a 375-acre greenspace in Northeast Baltimore, has become one of the beloved attractions for communities bordering it. Residents living in Lauraville, Arcadia, Belair-Parkside, Parkside, Belair-Edison, Mayfield, Montebello, Armistead Gardens and Orchard Ridge are all able to conveniently enjoy the park’s recreation.
Annie Milli, Executive Director of Live Baltimore, lives in the Arcadia neighborhood and enjoys the park with her family.
“My immediate neighbors include a large family of barred owls, deer and foxes. On summer nights, we watch bats fly at sunset—and I’m still in the city,” Milli said. “Raising my daughter within walking distance of a stream, nature trails AND bars and restaurants is literally the best of everything.”
In addition to having one of Baltimore City’s 18 parks nearby, neighbors also enjoy being able to walk or bike to local businesses.
Annie Howe, a local papercut artist, lives in the Lauraville neighborhood and houses her studio nearby. She often walks or bikes to complete her errands or to grab something to eat, she said.
“You can walk pretty much anywhere you need,” she said. “I love walking to Zeke’s and Red Canoe and further up is Batch Bakery and Silver Queen Cafe! There are so many good places to eat here. I can also walk to the grocery store and post office and I love the Harford Dollar Store — I drop my UPS packages off there!”
Johnette Richardson, Executive Director of Belair-Edison Neighborhoods Inc., said another community favorite is Oliver Brewing Company, a local brewery that was born in 1993 and focuses on English-style Brewing. The Oliver Brewing Company tasting room is located just off one of the Herring Run Park trails.
“We are thrilled to have local businesses, like Oliver Brewing Company, that offer quality goods and services as these add to the menu of assets that beautiful Belair-Edison has to offer,” Richardson said. “Our local businesses are helping us with signature events such as, the annual Beer and Wine Festival that each year delivers hundreds of families to our community for a spectacular experience.”
