BALTIMORE, Md., Sept. 9, 2026. Baltimore Beat now publishes online obituaries for a $5 contribution, giving families an affordable way to tell the story of someone they loved.

Publishing an obituary online often costs more than a family expects, and the tribute ends up wrapped in advertising and upsells. A family grieving a death should not have to shop for the least expensive way to say goodbye. The Beat built this option for the people that pricing leaves out.

“When someone dies, the last thing a family should worry about is whether they can afford to say their name in public,” said Lisa Snowden, CEO and co-founder of Baltimore Beat. “Five dollars. That’s it. We want every Baltimore family to have a place to put their loved one’s story, and we want that place to belong to the community, not to an advertiser.”

Baltimore Beat offers three options:

Online obituary, $5. Publishes on baltimorebeat.com.

Print death notice, $99. Runs in the paper, up to 150 characters, with service date, time, and location.

Premium print obituary, $300. Runs in the paper, up to 250 words, with one photo.

Print rates support the paper itself. Baltimore Beat prints for free and puts no paywall on its journalism. Money from print obituaries goes back into reporting and free distribution, reaching readers through more than 53 Beat Boxes across the city.

Families submit an obituary at baltimorebeat.com/obituaries. The form asks for the submitter’s contact information, the full name of the person who died, birth date, death date, and place of death. Photos upload as JPG, JPEG, PNG, or GIF files up to 10 MB, with a limit of four files. Payment runs through a secure QuickBooks page after submission.

Published obituaries appear at baltimorebeat.com /category/published-obituaries/.
