When Baltimore Beat was founded in 2017, we knew we needed to accomplish a few things: we needed to publish news that everyone in the city could easily access; we needed to create a home where writers, photographers, and other creatives could work and make a living; and we needed to highlight this city’s rich cultural life.

The money we raise goes directly into the hands of writers and photographers in and of this city. It helps us print papers. It helps us nurture the next generation of journalists. It helps us give you more of the writing and reporting that you’ve already come to know and love.
We believe that the ultra-wealthy shouldn’t get to decide what the news is and who gets to report it. We believe that news should be free of paywalls. We believe that Baltimore has the talent right here to give our city the journalism it deserves.
