I’m used to seeing different lights in my life.
My aunt’s calm, blue light.
My brother’s free spirit shining in bright green.
My sister’s vibrant red light,
capturing the chaos she brings,
and my mother.
Her soft pink glow shining with love.

But now, there’s a new light.
Purity, perfection, cleansing.
A new beginning,
shone in bright white light.

She hasn’t gotten her color yet,
but I know that when she does,
she will wear it with pride.

Will it be orange? Optimistic & enthusiastic.
Will it be yellow? Full of joy & hope.
What about pink? Loving & compassionate.

Her light won’t change this early on,
but I’m content with waiting, watching
to see what she will become.

To see her grow. Stretch past whatever I manage to accomplish,
and start down her own path.
Right now, I’m yellow. Hopeful
that I get to wait for her at
the end of her path.

Hopeful, that I am able to walk with her,
the whole way down.
